PIGEONS AT THE LIBRARY!

The public library remains one of the most practical and simple locations to bring positive attention to the racing pigeon hobby. Libraries welcome the opportunity to provide new and unique educational information. Children are especially eager to see and touch the birds and ask questions.

In Edwards, Missouri, independent AU member, Linda Stephan, treated neighborhood kids to a bird's eye view at the Boonslick Regional Library with the enthusiastic help of librarians Judy and Joanne. About twenty-eight children came with lots of questions and enthusiasm.

Accompanied by her husband Alan, Linda was able to take eight birds to the library. As Alan and Linda held the birds, each child had an opportunity to pet them.

In preparation for the presentation, Linda contacted the national AU office for promotion information and materials. Through email dialog about the presentation, she was able to determine what her needs would be for that time.

Colorful handouts geared to younger children are a pleasant way to pass the time and help them learn something new in the process.

Part of the enjoyment of doing the presentations such as Linda's is that the person doing the presenting usually ends up having as much or more fun than the audience. Kudos to Linda for sharing her favorite hobby!
