Menomonie Memorial

In Menomonie, Michigan, the city’s Patriotic Council enlisted the services of the Red Cedar Racing Pigeon Club members for Memorial Day services. In honor of all living and deceased veterans, white homing pigeons will be released, aptly representative as direct descendants of our past U.S. military pigeons.
To end the Memorial Day service, the Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard will fire three volleys to salute the dead. Members of the guard consist of the American Legion, Amvets, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The playing of Taps will follow.

Following the services, a group of local historians will dedicate the recently placed official Wisconsin historical marker that commemorates the lives of the 1,111 burials in the single grave section of Evergreen cemetery, an area that contains the earliest burials of the early pioneers of the area and reflects many of the hard times that these people endured. The public is invited to attend the dedication.
