VIRGINIA PET EXPO DRAWS NEW SPORT INTEREST

Four clubs came together to present the sport to 12,000 pet lovers at the Super Pet Expo in Chantilly, Virginia, April 6 and 7. The two-day expo took place at the Capital Expo & Conference Center.

American Racing Pigeon Union sponsored and helped man the display and provided brochures and promotional materials to enlighten and educate. The clubs were fortunate to be in one of the first booths people approached inside the front door. They were also able to attract the audience drawn to the regularly held expo seminars presented in an adjoining space.

People were surprised and pleased to discover the sport in the area that included Virginia , Maryland and Washington D.C. Some individuals had actually been in the sport before and were delighted to hear that they could continue it where they live. Children were able to hold baby birds and received examples of leg bands attached to an informational card they could take with them. Families expressed appreciation for the clubs being at the show, because they would not have known about the sport otherwise.

The members of the Northwest Racing Pigeon Club, Washington Combine Flyers, Northern Virginia Racing Pigeon Club and Capital City Racing Pigeon Club are to be congratulated for seizing the promotion opportunity, rallying to the event and presenting a polished display.

Each club will have a list of people who have expressed an interest in learning more. Registrants will be receiving information packets from the AU office and club members will follow up shortly after to answer questions and invite them to club activities.
